A tale as old as time–you go to take a hit of your brand-new vape cart, only to realize something is wrong. There’s no satisfying cloud of vapor and, worst of all, no high!

If your vape cart is not working, then it’s time to troubleshoot and get to the bottom of the issue—so you can spend more time vaping that sweet liquid gold and less time stressing about money down the drain. Get it fixed ASAP using our handy step-by-step guide.

Check the Hardware

Vapes are made up of a few moving parts: the cartridge, the battery, and the oil (the good stuff). The first thing you should examine for issues is the battery–make sure it is charged and working properly. If there are any issues, reach out to the battery manufacturer for help or a replacement.

If the battery seems to be working fine, check your voltage settings. Not all batteries will have this feature, but if yours does then it’s important to be mindful of the temperature you’re vaporizing your oil at. Low voltage usually produces more flavorful puffs with small vapor clouds while higher voltage can produce big plumes of vapor and a more dull flavor. Experiment with your battery and your preferences!

Next, ensure that the cartridge isn’t twisted on too tight or too loose. The connection pin can be sensitive, and needs to connect properly in order to work. Play around with the tightness to see if that resolves the problem.

Lastly, see if the contact points on the battery or the cartridge are contaminated. Sometimes oil from the cart can leak a bit and the sticky residue can stop it from functioning properly. This residue can be easily cleaned off with some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.

Check the Oil

If the battery is functioning properly, that means the issue is probably with the cartridge itself. If there is no airflow at all when you take a pull from the vape, then the mouthpiece may be clogged. Gently insert a small needle or a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol into the airway.

If this doesn’t help either, you can try and loosen the oil a bit by carefully warming it up. Rubbing the cart between your hands for a few minutes can sometimes do the trick. If not, you can place the cartridge into a tightly sealed sandwich bag and run it under warm water, or slowly warm it up with a hairdryer. Be cautious with both of these methods, as applying too much heat for an extended period of time can degrade the quality of your oil, or even burn it.

Nothing Works. Now What?

If you tried all of the above and your cart still isn’t hitting, then you may have received a defective product. Unfortunately, cannabis law in most states does not allow products purchased to be brought back into a dispensary or exchanged/returned like a typical retail space. But, fret not! If you purchased your vape cartridge or battery at a Village store, we are happy to assist you in replacing it!

Reach out to the specific location where you purchased the product and send us a photo of your purchase receipt, a description of the issue, and either a photo or video of the product and the problem. We will get back to you promptly to start resolving the issue for you!
