Cannabis Education at Village Brands Dispensary

We believe that knowledge is the foundation of every great cannabis experience. Whether you are a first-time visitor stepping into a recreational dispensary or a seasoned enthusiast looking to deepen your understanding of strains and consumption methods, education sits at the heart of everything we do at Village Brands Dispensary. We are not your ordinary flower shop, and that starts with how we empower our customers to make informed, confident choices every time they walk through our doors in Broadview & Chicago, IL, & Hoboken, NJ.

The cannabis industry is evolving rapidly. According to recent market research, the legal cannabis market in the United States is projected to exceed $50 billion by 2028, with consumer demand for education-driven retail experiences growing alongside it. Too many big corporations entered the marijuana dispensary space without genuinely connecting with the people they serve. When Dan created Village Brands Dispensary in 2019, the vision was different from day one. We are multi-state, but we are home to you. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and that same philosophy of community care and shared wisdom inspired our name and our approach to customer education.

Why Cannabis Education Matters

Cannabis is not a one-size-fits-all product. The sheer variety of strains, potency levels, terpene profiles, and consumption methods means that what works beautifully for one person might not be the right fit for another. Education bridges that gap. When customers understand the difference between indica, sativa, and hybrid varieties, or learn how cannabinoids like THC and CBD interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, they are equipped to find products that genuinely match their needs and lifestyle.

Our roots run deep in this commitment. Village Brands Dispensary grew out of Viola Brands, a company Dan and Al Harrington founded in 2011. Al, an ex-NBA player who played basketball for the Denver Nuggets, was moved to action when his grandma Viola was suffering from glaucoma and high blood pressure. He tried to convince her to try cannabis. She was resistant at first but tried it out and saw changes instantly. That personal experience of watching someone discover cannabis as a wellness tool became the driving force behind everything we build. We named Viola Brands after Al’s grandma, and that legacy of genuine care carries through to every educational interaction at our cannabis dispensary locations.

Our Approach to Customer Education

Education at Village Brands Dispensary is not a lecture. It is a conversation. Our budtenders are trained to listen first and recommend second, ensuring every customer feels welcomed and understood. From locals exploring New Jersey & Missouri to industry insiders and loyal Knicks fans, we make everyone feel at home. Our team members undergo extensive training that covers product knowledge, dosing guidelines, terpene education, and responsible consumption practices.

We carefully curate our menu based on quality and experience, and we want every customer to understand why specific products earn a place on our shelves. Here is what our educational framework focuses on:

  1. Product Knowledge Sessions: Our budtenders walk customers through the specifics of each product category, including flower, concentrates, edibles, tinctures, and topicals, explaining onset times, duration, and ideal use cases
  2. Strain and Terpene Education: We help customers understand how terpenes like myrcene, limonene, and caryophyllene influence the effects and flavors of different strains
  3. Dosing Guidance: Especially important for newcomers to any weed dispensary, we provide clear recommendations on starting low and going slow with edibles and concentrates
  4. Wellness-Oriented Conversations: Drawing from the story of Viola herself, we discuss how different products may support relaxation, sleep, appetite, and overall comfort

Building an Educated Community

Since 2011, when Viola Brands first started making sales servicing people with cancer and HIV, education has been inseparable from our mission. As the company grew from the recreational market in Colorado to Oregon and since 2020 has launched in over 12 different markets and Canada, that educational commitment scaled with us. Village Brands Dispensary sells Viola Brands products within our stores, and we take pride in telling the full story behind every product we offer.

Viola Brands has built generational wealth in Black and brown communities, and education is central to that vision. When communities understand cannabis, they can participate meaningfully in the industry as consumers, advocates, and entrepreneurs. We see our role as a marijuana dispensary extending far beyond transactions. We are building a lifestyle brand that blends innovation, culture, and quality.

  • In-store educational materials that break down cannabinoid science in accessible language
  • Trained staff who prioritize customer comfort and informed decision-making
  • Community-focused engagement that positions our recreational dispensary as a trusted local hub

At Village Brands Dispensary, education is not an add-on. It is the experience. Every question you ask makes us better at serving you, and every answer we provide brings you closer to the cannabis experience you deserve. Come visit us in Broadview & Chicago, IL, & Hoboken, NJ and discover what it means to shop with a dispensary that truly puts knowledge and community first.
